My daughter had been introduced to the musical Wicked to the whole family a few years ago, and we fell in love with the music instantly! She has been involved in theatre and music for years and has been in and seen more musicals than we can count. Though she had never seen Wicked, she knew every song and character. So you can imagine her reaction when I told her we were going to the live Broadway in Portland show Wicked at the Keller Auditorium!
When we arrived, the show started immediately and we were blown away from the beginning. No detail was overlooked and the talent of the cast was incredible.
We loved the added touches that Galenda, put into her character during the song Popular and every other moment on stage. She added so much humor and personality to the music you couldn’t help but have a grin from ear to ear during her performance. Elphaba, absolutely aced it in my daughter’s favorite song: No Good Deed.
Knowing how these songs were performed and the story behind them gave them a whole new meaning. The energy and talent of the cast as a whole was unbelievable, they gave off the feeling of excitement as if it was the first time they were performing the production.
The amazing part about Wicked was seeing how everything tied in with The Wizard of Oz. My daughter has listened to the music and storyline of Wicked more times than she could count, but had no idea how everything tied together. Finding out how the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion come to life gives a whole new meaning to The Wizard of Oz and Wicked. Let’s just say you would never guess how it all turns out!
The performance made you happy, sad, emotional, and really made you feel like you knew every single character on that stage giving you goose bump along the whole way. Wicked gives a whole new perspective on the Wicked Witch of the West, and it’s a side more people should get to know
You can see Wicked now through August 23rd. To find out how you can get your own orchestra seats tickets for only $25 each.
