Broadway’s WICKED in Portland is here!!! This is Portland’s most anticipated musical of the year and is definitely a show you will not want to miss. If you are not familiar with that the story-line of WICKED involves, it is a view of what happened in the Land of Oz… but from the the other angle and view of Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.
The night that we attended, Elphaba was performed by the understudy (SARAH ANNE FERNANDEZ) she was SIMPLY amazing! She is a NYU Tisch 2018 grad and is thrilled to be joining her dream show here in Portland. During her performance, “Defying Gravity,” I swear I had a million goose bumps that ran on me from head to toe!
And then there’s Glinda (Erin Mackey) the fun, spunky, talented girl that everyone want’s to be! I would have to say that she is in my top 5 characters for all the Broadway shows I have seen! She just makes me laugh. Erin did an amazing job channeling all of the quirky qualities that we expect from Glinda. But, beyond her amazing acting, her singing ability is on a different level. You are going to love “Popular” this is iconic song was captured so well, the personality that was poured in this performance was priceless!
More about the story
“Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin–smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships… until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “Wicked.”
If you have never seen Wicked before you are going to love all of the little details that dove-tail together Wicked and Wizard Of Oz. Wizard of Oz will have a whole new meaning to you. Things to look out for are the connection between the shoes, the Tin-man, The Scarecrow and even the Moneys.
I had attended my first viewing of WICKED about 4 years ago AND coincidentally it was my first partnership with #BroadwayInPortland, so this held a special spot in my heart. Though I had seen the show before, I was so thrilled to see this show for a second. Since my first viewing, I had became a huge fan, immersing myself in the music and story. By doing this it really allowed me to fully dive in to this show…..and dare I say…..I found this performance even BETTER than that of several years ago.
If you are still looking to get tickets to the show, you are in luck because their are lots of dates still available as this show is playing until July 28th! In fact you can “WIN” a pair a $25 tickets!
Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the Keller Auditorium box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person.
