We have a special Valentines tradition at our house that we have kept going for over 15 years now. Our local pizzeria offers heart shaped pepperoni pizzas on the 13th and 14th every February. Now, pizza is my weakness, I always tell everyone that I could eat it for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. On the other hand I have noticed recently that my youngest child has had some tummy pains and discomfort when he eats gluten. We decided to cut out gluten from his diet a few months ago and had notice a huge turnaround. The next challenge was to find gluten free products that DON’T taste like they are gluten free. I remember only a few short years back when there was a very small line of gluten free product and they were not very appealing to the eye or taste bud but they have come a LONG way, you almost can’t even taste the difference.
I was so please to go to that gluten free Walmart event a few weeks back and discover even more amazing products that I had yet to learn were on the market. While I was there, I talked to the samplers and learned a lot, I was also able to give many of the products a personal taste test! I am glad companies are understanding that gluten sensitivity is a real thing and that they are working hard to make lives better for many people and for companies like Walmart who work hard to offer their shoppers a HUGE selection of gluten free products at a great price that makes it manageable to buy.
This year while at the Walmart event I found a very generous personal sized gluten free pepperoni pizza from Udi’s. My biggest fear was making my son feel different or left out not being able to have pizza with the rest of the family, so I will be making him his very own heart shaped Valentine pizza, with a side of NO upset tummy!
To make your own heart shaped pizza is very simple. Let the pizza defrost for about 15 mins before you try to cut it, then cut a piece of parchment paper into a heart shape. Place the paper on top of the pizza trace around with a sharp knife and bake as usual!!!
Woohoo, now you have a festive, gluten free pizza that any kid (or adult) will LOVE!
Happy Valentines Day!
