If you know me… I am not much of a reader, let alone about diet books. I have to tell you though, this book The Fast Metabolism Diet was very intriguing and an easy read, it kinds just sucked you in and REALLY made since. The book really helped me understand that how I have been eating ( as well as most woman) is really hurting our metabolism and the things we have been doing to try and “fix” our problems are only working against us and making it worse.
Before my little get together with friends, I gave the diet a test drive so I could have a little first hand experience. I started the diet on a Monday (like it was recommended), therefore I did all my prep shopping for the week on Sunday. All the items were easy to find on my list and I was able to maintain a fairly reasonable budget.
The Fast Metabolism Diet consists of 3 Phases in one week. It is allowing you to “shocking” your body and to burn what you are eating and then some. Here is what a typical day looks like for me.
Phase 1: Unwind – Stress and calm the adrenals
During this phase you will eat a lot of natural sugars , grains and some protein . You will pair this with cardio exercise.
Phase 2: Unlock-stored fat and muscle build
During this phase you will eat a lot of green veggies and high protein. You will pair this with a weight training exercise.
Phase 3: Unleash the burn- hormones, heart and heat
During this phase you will get to eat natural fat foods that are good for you, like nuts and olive oil. You will pair this with a relaxing activity like yoga or a massage.
I found the diet to be easy to follow, I never felt hungry and didn’t have to worry about shakes, counting calories or points. I will have to work on prepping more as that was the only snag I was running into but with good planning it should be very easy week after week. After my first week, I lost 3 pounds.
This was my favorite recipe from the book and it is so simple!!!!!
Sweet Potato Hummus Recipe and Peppers
- 2 16 oz. can chickpeas, drained, reserving 1/3 cup liquid
- 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato
- 1/2 cup tahini
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 to 11/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 garlic clove
- 1/4 tsp ground cumin
- 6 cups sliced cucumbers
Last weekend I invited a few friends over to my house for a little party and shared The Fast Metabolism Diet. We made several recipes from the book and everyone received a gift bag which included their own copy of the book.
