My husband and I are going to be celebrating out 19th year wedding anniversary in a couple of days and we are just as much in love as ever….if not more. We both got married very young as teenagers and along with that soon came babies……6 of them (7 if you count my new son-in-law living with us). As you may assume our “us” time has always been limited…. we have never been able to look at each other and say “how about we get away for the weekend”. We have always been fine with this because we never new any different, everything we did, we did with kids, except for a few dates here and there.
We were recently feeling that need to getaway. Just this June my oldest daughter got married and as exciting as it was…it takes a toll. Top that off with my husband having surgery, two kids graduating and being a personal chauffer to everyone and to their schedules…….. I was ready to run away for some me time. My husband was sweet enough to turn to me and utter those unspoken words…..”How about we get away for the weekend?” I tried to come up with and excuse as to why we couldn’t ….. what about the kids?……who will watch the little one? and how are they going to get to work? He told be they would be fine, not to worry and let him plan everything.
We decide to do something local and do something that we have NEVER done before. We went roughing it camping….and with NO kids. We had been camping before with kids but I never ever had to hike in before like we did (5.5 miles with a 50lb pack ,all uphill) We had to buy a few things, I was super excited to pick out his super cute and cozy Xscape Designs Vertex 4 Person Dome Tent instead of old and heavy 8 person one we currently had. I also needed a pack so I chose the stylish and light Link to SwissGear City Pack’ target=”_blank”>SwissGear City Pack, and he surprised me with a new camera…. I really liked the Link to Canon EOS Rebel T5I’ target=”_blank”>Canon EOS Rebel T5I.
I was filled with 25 different emotions during this trip….. freedom, love, exhaustion, inspiration, encouragement, pride, and re-connection with the love of my life, nature and spirit. There were moments hiking up to the site that I thought I could never make it…even a moment of panic from the sheer heat and exhaustion knowing that I was only half way there and that either way ….up or down, might as well felt like 100 miles. But, during all this, my sweetie was beside me being my cheerleading saying how proud he was of me, knowing that this was well out of my comfort zone.
By the end of the trip I felt reconnected, reenergized and proud that I had accomplished a major milestone set out before me! Thank you sweetie for an amazing trip.
