Suicide Squad – What You Need to Know About This Hit DC Movie

Suicide Squad has always been a bit of a DC hidden jewel waiting to be mined and after Marvel released the red-hot movie Deadpool, it was just a matter of time before executives shined it up and released it on the masses. Like Deadpool, these heroes are not heroes at all. In fact, they are a group of Villains mostly found in the pages of Batman that are gathered for secret missions. In exchange, they are given shorter prison sentences.
The Suicide Squad has been “in the works” for years but finally is going to be released this summer. This will be written and directed by David Ayer and is loaded with a superstar cast that will make any fanboy cry. With the amount of talent here, this could end up being the best super-hero based movie ever.
The general idea behind the movie is simple. A woman named Amanda Waller recruits some of the worst villains the world has ever known to fight black ops secret missions. In exchange they are made to think they might be set free. Somewhere along the line, it becomes clear that the motivations for the program are a bit murkier than all that leading to all kinds of explosions, fights and other super-villainy type action. Here is a look at this stunning cast and the characters they portray:
Amanda Waller – Viola Davis
Davis plays the government gal that runs the ship of misfits. No good gal herself, Waller has her own motivations and is not afraid to put them into motion. Who better to deal with this gang of horror show misfits?
Deadshot – Will Smith
Now this is a cool character that Smith really sinks his teeth into. The guy is billed as an assassin that can’t miss. He is deadly accurate and loves to go hunting, but he is not always aligned with the team. In some ways, he seems unsure of what his role is in life. This conflict made him very popular in the comics.
The Joker – Jared Leto
Leto made all kinds of news with his odd behavior on set and apparently he realized that he has some pretty big shoes to fill. Heath Ledger’s version of this maniacal Batman villain almost certainly drove him to want to knock it out of the park. In doing so, he stayed in character 24-7 on set from what the rumors say. Psychopath that he is, the Joker is a lynchpin character in the film. His take on the character is different and some even say modernistic, but it will be interesting to see if he actually retains his comic book charm.
Harley Quinn – Margot Robbie
Robbie has gotten rave reviews from nothing more than previews and screen shots as the bubbly yet insane Joker protege Harley Quinn. The character is a former psychiatrist and it allows her to manipulate in horrifying ways. Robbie is the breakthrough star in this film if you listen to insiders.
Boomerang – Jai Courtney
This guy is the one you will love to hate. While he is quite talented with his trusty boomerang, he has not such skill with his social game. He plays the annoying, irritating guy you hope gets it first.
Killer Croc – Adewale Akinnuoye
This is one really cool super-villain and the movie seems to do his appearance justice. Freaky looking in all that makeup, you can barely make out Akinnuoye at all. The character, however, is terrifying and looking to get fed!
El Diablo – Jay Hernandez
The ability to summon fire makes Diablo a very cool character and interestingly, he is troubled about the talent. Apparently the fire has made trouble for his life and now he simply wants to be left alone. His partners make that very difficult.
Enchantress – Cara Delevingne
This is the target that the squad chases first. An old school sorceress, the beautiful Delevingne makes her character really jump off the screen in the trailers that have been released. Hopefully they stay true to the comic on this character.
