5 Tips on Spring Cleaning Your Yard
I think a good majority of us can say that we get some burst of spring cleaning inspiration for the inside of our homes. The smell of the fresh clean Spring air encourages us to clean every nook and cranny of our home. That said, the outdoor cleaning often gets overlooked. Here are five helpful ideas to get your outdoor area ready for Spring.
Defend you home of bugs
Bugs come on full force during the Spring and Summer months so taking action now while they are stagnant is vitally important. Clean up your yard, knock down any existing nests and remove any standing water. Our area is very prone to sugar ants and this time of year… if you keep your eyes open you will see trails of them. Seal up any cracks and holes and spray them down with a bug spray. Right now the ants are bringing in their eggs to hatch, this will triple your pest problem…. inside your house. The more you do now, the better your life will be when the bugs come calling.
Clean up that deck
Deck cleanser is not all that expensive and you can most certainly make your own. Get out there and get that deck ready for entertaining and cook out season as it is just around the corner! A clean and comfortable deck is a wonderful way to enjoy spring. Even if you don’t have a very dry Spring season… like me in the PNW, if your deck is cleared off and swept, when you get that first solid dry spell you will be ready to stain.
Wash windows?
Yes, we know you don’t want to do it. I don’t blame you. Now go do it and get it over with. It will make your inside and outside feel fresh and clean….. two birds, one stone!
Get your garden started
Gardening is a wonderful way to enjoy the spring and Summer weather as it approaches. Even if your planting zone is not up for planting yet, there are plenty of prepping you can take advantage of.
- Lay in ground soaker hose or sprinkler systems
- Visit your local produce department and ask for a banana tarp (it should be free). These tarps come in their banana deliveries and are huge tarps in either clear or black. These are a perfect way to either smother out weeds in your garden area and allow them to die off with little effort or you can use the clear tarps and create a mock greenhouse to get your seeds started.
- Evaluate any plants you planted last year (shrubs, trees, bushes, vines) if they didn’t make it over the Winter, most places like Lowe’s, Home Depot and even Costco allow for a 1 year guarantee and will replace these for you!
Clean out you gutters
If you have new gutters, many of them now come with the covers but many of us still have the old fashioned type. If you do, then take great caution and get them cleaned out. In fact, this might be the time to see about getting some new gutters. The season is right and you can usually find a pretty good deal on them. If you are not in a position to purchase new gutters, any repairs to cracks or holes are easily repaired by using Flexible Liquid Rubber Aerosol Spray Sealant this stuff is amazing and is a great fix to extend your gutters for a year or two.
