Having nursed six children I can assure you that no two babies are exactly the same when it comes to breastfeeding. Many would say to me “oh, you’re an expert, you’ve got this” only to go home and be sometimes lost. A lot of people need a little help, whether this is your first child or your sixth child, nobody should feel like they are left to face breastfeeding alone.
The few weeks after giving birth will be the most exciting and blissful time but at times it can feel the loneliest. All of a sudden all the attention has gone off you and is now on the baby. If things don’t go as planned- like latch issues, breast refusal, or milk supply, new moms can feel frustrated or even like a failure. Many assume that breastfeeding is super easy and just happens as naturally and simple as other mammals but it truly is a learning experience that both mom and baby need to get the hang of.
I’m excited about a new program that Amwell has to offer. You can now get face-to-face over the computer consultation for breast feeding at any time of the day or night. So now when you are faced with that late night pain in your breast wondering if it’s mastitis or you are beyond frustrated because your baby just won’t latch right, you can now get immediate help and advice in the privacy of your own home without having to leave. I love how using video allows the Consultants to assist with latching, breast pain due to feeding issues or questions about milk supply in real time. You can rest assured that you are getting amazing advice and lactation services because all of Amwell’s providers are part of the network of international board certified lactation Consultants.
I have actually used Amwell before and was very pleased with their services and attentiveness. They offer other services for things for like bronchitis, the common cold, questions about rashes or UTIs. What ever it is…they’re there to help you. Amwell is even able to prescribe you an antibiotic if needed or get you a great referral to a doctor in your area.
Amwell gives a whole new meaning to the old fashion house call and turned it into a modern day doctor visit straight to your home. I live outside the city a bit, so the thought of booking an appointment for a few days out or having to go to urgent care seems like quite the ordeal especially when you’re a new mother. Not to mention having to pay attention to business hours. If have an urgent question or concern your only option is to go into the ER which can be very lengthy and spendy.
Amwell breastfeeding support is not just for new moms though. You can also get advice on how to keep up you milk supply, how to go back to work and maintain nursing or even how to start weening your baby off the breast.
