Must Haves for Your Home
You always want to be prepared for the unexpected. When you make sure you have certain items in your home you can embrace last-minute guests or accidents without feeling like you are spiraling out-of-control. Stock your house with some of these essentials, and you’ll be prepared for almost any surprise.
First-aid kit
It will never be a bad idea to have a fully stocked first-aid kit in your kitchen. Two of them are even more useful, where one can be for daily use and one can be for emergencies.
- Tip:
The kit for daily use can have items such as band aids, headache medicine, Neosporin, alcohol wipes, and any allergy medicine for the family such as Epi-pens or Benadryl. Whereas the one for emergencies can have items such as slings, casts, or more heavy-duty supplies.
Power outage supplies
Always make sure you have working flashlights. There is nothing worse than the power going out and finding the flashlight only to realize you now have to search, in the dark, for batteries. Keep batteries and flashlights in an easy-to-find container.
- Tip:
Other items to keep with the flashlights and batteries would be candles, matches, bottled water, and canned food. Also, things such as puzzles and board games are always a good thing to have on hand when you can’t rely on technology to keep your attention.
Fire extinguisher
It would never be a bad idea to keep a fire extinguisher in your garage and one on your second story if you have it. It might seem extreme but it also might keep an emergency from becoming a tragedy.
A squeegee and wet wipes
If you want your friends to think your house isn’t always a Lego-filled, crumby mess, a squeegee will help you get perfectly clean windows and mirrors. It also helps get the bathroom ready quickly before guests arrive. The same goes for wet wipes. Wiping down sinks, countertops, and even toilets goes a long way.
- Tip:
Just browse through your local Target or Walmart’s cleaning aisle to find these essentials and even save some cash with a Walmart coupon code.
A stocked bar
Sometimes the day turns into guests coming over for some more conversation and drinks. You don’t want to disappoint, so make sure you have the essentials on hand.
- Tip:
A bar cart is a cute way to make sure you are always stocked. Just have the essentials: vodka, gin, whiskey, bourbon, tequila, triple sec, and red, white and rose wine as well as champagne. Another good thing to keep on the cart would be garnishes as well as games such as Cards Against Humanity or Scrabble.
Frozen cheese
Grab some cheese like brie, blue cheese, and hard cheeses and throw them in your freezer. You can then pull them out when guests come over.
- Tip:
Crackers are always a great thing to have on hand as well as almonds and grapes. Don’t forget to make sure you have a cute cheese board and knives stored away as well as serving plates, whether they are paper or formal.
These are all simple suggestions to make sure you always feel prepared in situations at home. You can always add your own touches to make sure your home is your perfectly prepared oasis.
