Thank you Disney for inviting me to attend the #antmanandthewaspevent and inviting me dow
I have been a long time fan of Laurence Fishburne who plays “Dr. Bill Foster” in the movie Ant-Man and the wasp. You make recognize him in many favorites like The Matrix and the Tina Turner movie What’s Love Got to Do with It and of course my favorite mystery drama Just Cause and now he is adding Marvel to his long movie career list.
I was surprised by how relaxed and humble he was. As he rolled in the the room, you felt a very “zen” like quality fill the room.
How was it working in the Marvel world?
We asked him, How was it working in the Marvel world, especially since working with DC?
His response is one of which I would expect “I started reading comic books when I was very young. Probably like eight or nine years old. And I always read DC and Marvel. I love them both.”
I feel that I really learned a personal lesson from Laurence Fishburne during this interveiw…. if he wants it, he takes action, something I think we can all learn to do a little better, as they always say, “It never hurts to ask, the worst they can say is no”. So this is just what Laurence Fishburne did! We had asked him
How did you become involved in this project?
Basically with a little tenacity he worked hard to make this role become his. “Three or four years back I was just couldn’t help myself. I wanted very much to be a part of the MCU because of the way it was progressing. They were doing such great things and Louis D’Esposito and I had worked together about thirty years ago – we were both on the Disney channel. So I just asked to have a meeting with him and said, “look, I’ll do whatever you need me to do but I really would like to be a part of the MCU if there’s any way that you can see that I can do that?” And they came back and said, oh, there’s this character, Bill Foster”
Was it difficult stepping into the MCU after ten years?
Further more we asked him, Was it difficult stepping into the MCU after ten years? Especially since you’ve been watching it progress? He was so excited to express “Oh no. Oh no. I was very, very happy to jump in all four feet. I mean, you know, I would have played a fly on the wall or I would have played a piece of debris In the Marvel Universe.” I think all of in the room could have related the same and would have had the same reaction.
Is there going to be anything that we might see going forward of a Goliath type character
One question that we did ask that had a very interesting answer…. and you can take away from this what ever you want….. Is there going to be anything that we might see going forward of a Goliath type character? With a coy smile on his face… “Let me put it to you this way. I am not at liberty to speak on such an operation – if in fact such an operation”
How was is playing the bad guy?
We asked him, how was is playing the bad guy? and to much of our surmise, he had played the bad guy in much of his early career.
“Oh no, no, no, no, no. Villainy. There’s nothing wrong with villainy. Villainy is great. And, you know, if you go way, way back, you go back forty years. You can see I did a lot of villainy coming up.” “I played, a rapist in Death Wish 2, with Charles Bronson. in 1982″”
“Pimps are people, too.”
You did not know a certain scene was coming?
To much of our surprise, Mr. Fishburne was left in the dark about a certain something! We asked him, “Paul said you just watched the movie a couple days ago and you did not know scene was coming?”
He shared with us his reaction to his first screening of the full movie with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Peyton Reed (director) and a few others and when a certain clip… that I am not allowed to discuss came on, is first reaction was to blurt out “OH SHIT!!!”, I can agree…. it is very oh shit worthy!
