Most of us have seen extreme couponing now and some of you may be impressed.. but then other’s … like myself, that find it very silly and boring. Great…. they bought 50 candy bars and 70 sports drink, and don’t forget about 200 toothbrushes but can you make a meal form it?
It is true that once you get by the coupon/freebie bug it is so exciting. I have been there, buying cereal that I knew we didn’t like just because we could get it free and then having it sit there for months until it just got thrown out. I also have fallen into the trap of buying things I would never normally buy for my family because it was a good buy and then later feeling guilty because I just realized my family has gone through 30 boxes of Swiss Miss mix.
Through the process of couponing I have a better idea and understanding what works for our family.
1– Get and idea in your head of how long you want to be stocked up for on items….1 month, 6 months…1 year? I choose to go about 6 months on food products and a year on household Items.
2 – Don’t stress about missing a deals … I have learned that they follow a pattern and they will have amazing deals again very soon.
3– Be true to yourself and your family. Don’t feel just because it’s free you must get it. There are many things I have gotten that if I was honest with myself at the time I would never have gotten…..knowing it was either something I know my kids wouldn’t have liked or it didn’t fit into how I wanted them to eat.
I will be working on some posts highlighting the different areas to save BEYOND sport drinks and candy bars. Areas I will be touching on will be REAL food, gardening, clothes, back to school item and activities. If you have any other suggestions please leave a comment below.
