Moving into a new place, albeit exciting, can take a while to feel like home. The environment feels completely different as there are adjustments from the previous home to the new house.
Here are a few tips to making this new place as comfortable and beautiful as the last home:
Security:
In news homes and new areas, security is especially important to a person feeling comfortable in their home. This is particularly true for those moving from an apartment setting into a neighborhood. Most apartment complexes are gated or inside a building where burglary does not seem likely. While most people never experience a break-in in their homes, having ADT security cameras or installing new locks to ensure the safety of the house can make a big difference in feeling secure at the new place.
Unpack Quickly:
Living in boxes and being unsure of where any and all items are can make a person feel as if they are on a vacation or a guest in their own house. When things are not set up or put away, the house feels impersonal. Bite the bullet and unpack as quickly as possible because something as little as being organized can change the house’s outlook from chaotic to cozy.
Decorate:
Nothing makes a house feel more like home than the personal touches of photographs and decor. Because the new house is set up differently than the previous house, do not fixate on trying to place everything in the same area as it was. Get creative and try new things in new places. Sometimes, purchasing a couple new items can help the adjustment into a new home.
Decorating can be a time consuming process. A good rule of thumb is for a person to display their favorite items from photographs of family and friends to a favorite lamp to the coffee machine. Having those important items up and out first can truly add character and warmth to the home.
And, do not be afraid to change things. Displaying favorite pieces early on in order to generate a comfy atmosphere does not mean they have to stay in that same place. Test them out because they can always be moved later.
Paint:
White walls are sometimes too impersonal. Choosing specific colors to reflect a personal style puts the homeowner’s personality into the home. Putting in effort to transform the home into a familiar, relaxed environment adds an attachment to the place. It is no longer the empty, unwelcoming place; instead, these personal touches make it a friendly environment.
Fill The Space:
Empty space feels cold and formal. Filling the walls and rooms with furniture and decoration—even if it is with temporary items—adds to its peaceful environment. One way to fill the space, while making it feel like home from the second you step in your home is to have all of your furniture delivered to your new space before you get there! Then, it is like you are walking into the home you know, with new (hopefully updated?) bones!
Not sure how to do this? Let me give you a little tip: hire professional and experienced movers that will pack your items up for you and then move them carefully. There are a ton of companies like this, but only one really stands out to me, in my opinion, and that is Atlanta Peach Movers. Offering packing, international moving, storage, long distance moving Atlanta, and more, Atlanta Peach Movers is THE premier moving service in Georgia. With over thirty years of experience and as the official movers of The Braves, you know you are in great hands. They have an A+ rating on BBB and also have tons of fantastic reviews, like this one from Joel: “Atlanta Peach Movers did an excellent job with my recent move! The 4-man crew actually turned out to be 5 men at no additional cost. They were very careful with all my stuff, including the piano. The cost was very reasonable and even less than the estimate. Would strongly recommend these movers.”
They take great care of their customers and their belongings. Plus, every single one of their 150 team members is full-time. They do not hire temporary or casual help, like a lot of other moving companies do. Each employee receives stringent, ongoing training at their on-site training facility. They are literally trained to know how to properly move your items safely and securely.
Adding in your old furniture will definitely make your new house feel like home. But, more than furniture, fill the space with people. Have a housewarming party, or weekly or monthly gatherings with friends and family. Sharing space with those who are most important will no doubt transform the empty house into a loving, personal home.
