How To Make Your House A Stress Free Zone
Long days at work, stressful holiday travel or just a busy day running around can take its toll on your mental health. Stress and anxiety can build up very quickly and before you know it, you are a ball of nerves and have trouble functioning.
To prevent this from happening, you need to give yourself a sort of oasis from the stress. In other words, your home should be a no stress zone so you can arrive and start to decompress right away.
Having your house set up well will go a long way towards keeping you from having a nervous breakdown by giving you a pause. By breaking up those stressful moments you have the ability to keep things from getting too bad.
In this article, I will go over the ways you can set up your home to be your haven so you can enjoy some stress free time.
1 – Technology free zone
There should be an area of the house in which there are no distractions or noise like from a TV or a computer that draws you in. It can be a separate room, or even just a little corner somewhere with a comfy chair.
This can be like a sort of decompression chamber that allows you some mental space. When you have access to devices like a smartphone or tablet then you are tempted to
engage. The point of this space is to disengage completely for a little while to give your brain some breathing room.
Add a water fixture like one of these top indoor waterfalls or a small fountain for the benefit of the sound of running water. Running water is very soothing and provides a break for your brain so you can quickly settle into a relaxed mode.
2 – Add lots of plants
Greenery in the home is essential even if you aren’t stressed. The plants do a great job of cleaning the air and giving it an oxygen boost. They also provide a calming
atmosphere that makes it feel relaxing.
Nature is the perfect antidote for stress, but we can’t always get out and enjoy a walk in the woods. Having plants in the home is the next best thing. Even watering and trimming
the plants is therapeutic and helps to decrease your stress levels.
3 – Declutter your home
Having clutter around your home can lead to a sort of depression. It is beyond just being annoying because things aren’t tidy. You can get overwhelmed when you are always
thinking of the things you need to do to clean up a bit. And this clutter leads to anxiety .
Set aside 30 minutes per day a couple of days per week to put things away where they belong. You need to have a system for storage to prevent things from getting out of hand
to begin with. When you have a system then everything has its place which makes it very easy to keep things tidy.
