Right now, more and more of us are staying at home enjoying time with our families. If you are anything like me, you have also been improving your house. Before COVID, I did enjoy working on my home, but it was not really a priority. Instead, I prioritized traveling and spending time with family and friends away from the home. This has changed my perspective, however, and I have been working on creating a well-loved home that my family can enjoy. If you are wanting to do the same thing, follow these tips on how to create a well-loved home for your family:
Fill Your Home With Memories
By this, I mean photos or souvenirs. What it stems down to is filling your home with joy, memories from great times, and photographs of your loved ones. Have a memory that is special to you? Find a way to incorporate it in your home so that you are reminded by it. For example, your honeymoon? Find a picture and frame it. The birth of your children? Find photos or memories (hand prints, etc.) that you took or had done and display it all for your viewing pleasure. Displaying memories throughout your home will make it feel so joy-filled and well-loved. This is important because this is where you are spending your life. This is where you wake up in the mornings and go to sleep at night. You are raising your family here and you are spending most of your days inside of this home. Since so much time is spent here, your mood depends so much on the things around you – the things you see. Make sure that you are looking at things you love, like past (great) memories!
Don’t Listen To Current Trends
Another way to create a well-loved home is to follow your own preferences and tastes – not current trends. For example, an all white home is ‘in’, but is that practical to your current situation? Do you even like that trend? If you prefer deeper, darker, and richer colors, then the all white trend is not for you. It’s not going to bring you joy and it’s not going to create a well-loved (full of love) home. Current trends do not matter. They slightly matter when you go to sell a home, but the beauty of having an updated (to your personal tastes) home is that the buyer can visualize what they want to do to the home in order to create THEIR own version of a great, well-loved home.
Display Reminders Of Your Achievements
You can’t create a home that you love without surrounding yourself around good memories, achievements, and milestones. I basically said this in the paragraph about memories/photos, but make sure that you include your achievements and milestones in that, as well – especially if it is a huge milestone/achievement like a big anniversary, or a huge job promotion, such as making partner in your firm. A great way to remember these big achievements and milestones is to get a custom aluminum plaque made by East Point Foundry.
Established in 1948, East Point Foundry hand crafts rich, and high-quality cast bronze and aluminum plaques for building signs, corporate facilities, donor recognition, memorials for schools, churches, and private organizations, and other huge milestones. They say, “Whether celebrating an anniversary, or marking exceptional achievement, Silver (Aluminum) plaques offer the rare combination of style and grace. Whether a custom colored plaque, or a traditional silver and black style, East Point Foundry ensures all plaques are hand-crafted to properly honor its recipients, both in life and postmortem. We honor those who seek and have achieved greatness, as the archetype of success in their respective fields.”
Spearheaded by President and Owner, Scott Livingston, the foundry has seen phenomenal growth and takes pride in making every piece custom and to exact specifications. If you are looking for a piece to remind you of your huge achievements and/or milestones, a custom-made, high-quality plaque from East Point Foundry is the way to go. It will stand the test of time and you will feel proud each and every time you look at it.
Plant A Garden
There is nothing that screams “well-loved” to me more than a home vegetable garden. Tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, squash, peppers, and more, you can tend to that garden day in and day out growing healthy forms of sustenance for your family. A really cool fact that I found is that children who eat home-grown vegetables are twice more likely to eat five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables a day compared to children who rarely or never ate homegrown veggies. Interesting, right? To me, a well-loved home stems from a healthy and happy family and this is one way that you can get there, while also getting more in touch with your home.
Entertain
Put your kitchen and your dining spaces to use by entertaining guests (friends and family) in your home. A well-loved home starts with the people, like I mentioned above, but the second place that it starts, in my opinion, is the kitchen. The kitchen truly is the heart of the home and when no matter how large or small it is, everyone seems to huddle up in the kitchen when things are going on. Entertaining guests in your home is a fantastic way to make your home feel more well-loved. It will make it feel like a home that is welcoming, instead of just any old house.
There are many ways to create a well-loved home, but these are a few of my favorite tips. When you move into a new house, or if you are home more (thanks to COVID) recently and you really want to start appreciating your home more, this list is a great place to start!
