Choosing to go green and practicing being eco-friendly is still in on the top of everyone’s mind despite our worlds current situation. Since we are all staying how and out of the stores, this spring, why not find some really creative ways to support a go green attitude for a cleaner universe? Now that a lot of us are all home, wish hours to spare…. we are lucky that the sun is coming out and the weather is warming up to give us the opportunity to improve the yard and help the environment out. Spring is so wonderful anyway, why not return the ecological favor and go green in a few simple ways? Here are six simple ideas that can help you this coming spring to go green in your own yard:
Hook up a clothesline
Yes, it takes a little bit longer for clothes to and requires some extra work but heck, we have time right now ;). Not only it is a powerful energy saver and will extend the life of your fabrics. It also allows for some great conversation time with your kids. The air appreciates it! And as a bonus, you won’t be able to find a better smelling fabric refresher. My favorite lines arethis super affordable Retractable Reel Outdoor Dryer line available on Amazon. These clothes lines are there when you want them but retract when you don’t!
Plant a tree
No explanation is really needed why this is a great “green” option. Planting a tree is fun for the whole family, and a great go green educational activity for the kids. In a way, this would be a fun remembrance of this time and continue to be a great conversations started for years to come. Places like Home Depot or Lowes have great deals this time of year on bareroot shrubs and trees and are open without having to go in. Additionally you can check out facebook marketplace for nurseries that are doing ZERO contact sales for you to pick up and go while maintaining social distancing.
Commit to Plastic FREE
Being a native Oregonian, we have finally made this a state wide commitment…… bring a reusable bag or pay .10 per paper bag. NO MORE PLASTIC! A fun activity to fill in the hours and even get the kids involved is to create some go green reusable bags. These are super simple to make and many templates are available for free online. This is a great go green educational activities for all school age children during this distance learning time. Sewing and helping out the environment is a great topic for Earth day and how to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Switch Over Accounts To Paperless
Most of my bills are now paid online, in face I think I have had the same booklet of stamps for the past 2 years. I always thought I would want my bill in written form and ship it off in the mail. A few months of going paperless and I was so never going back. It might be really hard to go completely without paper, but you can seriously cut down on some things. Paper towels, magazines and paperless billing are just a few ideas. Think of this each time you do something and you will be shocked at the chances you have to make a difference.
Go with natural cleaning supplies
This is so easy now because there are countless products dedicated to going green. Even better, you can use natural cleaning items that can be found around your house. Things like vinegar, baking soda and various essential oils can be used to eliminate toxic cleaners.
Dedicate a few days to community
Going green is something that requires a community commitment and doesn’t require sacrifice. Something as simple as picking up trash in a neighborhood, clean a creek bed, spend some time beautifying a park and talking with others. The green living idea need not be obsessive or complicated. Simply reach out with simple ideas and spread the word.
