I get asked all the time… how do you start a blog, where do you find time, how do you find all the deals and how do you make money blogging?
I have never told anyone that it has been a walk in the park. I started blogging in 2010 right after having my 6th child. I no idea what I was doing and taught myself everything…. one google search at a time. At first, my only readers were my friends and family but then after a few giveaways, my reach began to broaden. I couldn’t tell you how ecstatic I was to get my first little pile of affiliate store credit, but then I quickly realized how long I had worked for the $35 credit… I felt a little sick. Blogging iS work but if you treat it like your business, seek out the help of others and be patient, it will be very rewarding.
To ease things along, here are 5 of my top tips to be an amazing frugal blogger!
COMMUNITY!!!
For the first 2 years of blogging, I had no idea about facebook groups and, that there were people out their just like me looking for ideas and advise and in return had their own support to give. Things that I had struggled for weeks on, with many google searches….they were able to help me within a matter of minutes. I have made AMAZING friendship near and far in the blogging community. To Start, go to your search bar in facebook and type in “your niche blogger” group. You can expand your search to include your state, age, and even the type of support you are looking for. There are literally thousands of blogging groups to choose from. You can also look to other community platforms. For instance Intellifluence has influence spotlights, like JESSICA STRANGE, where she gives tips and advice on her blogging journey.
FINDING CONTENT
I think the top thing I get asked all the time, is where do you find your content. Being a frugal blogger, you really need to stay on top of what’s going on and new, that can be really hard if you have ANYTHING else going on in your life. BUT, when you use sites like Womansavings.com, it will become your best friend. Many bloggers won’t tell you this… but we get a lot of our information, coupons, codes, deals and freebies from places just like this …..AND it’s already available on the web to everyone….. shhhhh. Womansavings.com is where I go when I am looking for the day’s HOT mentions or deals. In fact, I just posted a FREEBIE deal today on my site for a FREE Gratitude Jounal and I got that info straight from WomanSavings.com. I check out their site often and I will either pass along a hot find through a tweet or if it’s a “real good one” I will do a full story on it. This site is a must to bookmark…. blogging or not!!!
SET UP SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS
When shopping for a domain name for your blog…. go and research the names for your social media accounts as well. It is important for the names of your site and social media to go hand and hand. It would be sad for those accounts to have already been taken after you had already made your domain purchase. After you have done your research and are good to go on your site….. secure ALL your social media accounts. Those are going to be so important to get active right along side your blog….. please do not do what others have said before… ” I am going to wait till I get more traffic on my site”. NO, social media IS your traffic…. without it, you won’t be heard. Social media is the spine to your blog… without it you will fall.
Frugal bloggers need to use social media even more than traditional bloggers because our deals come at use quick are are short lived. So make sure you have the social media apps downloaded to your phone for quick and easy access to do updates.
Take TONS of Pictures
I don’t like relying on stock photo sites… I am always nervous about using a photo that isn’t 100% mine, so over the years I have tried to create my own library of photos to use in most any situation. Be creative, because you never know when you are going to use it…. take pictures of store fronts, veggies, nature, events, travel….. be creative and snap away.
It is proven, posts do 100x better with photos, so why not be prepared and have what you need at your fingertips.
Learn SEO
SEO – search engine Optimization is so important when it comes to blogging or even running a website. You need to make sure to use relevant and important key words that are related to your article and most importantly searched in google. A great place to get started with learning the best whitelabel seo. This site will help you get started learning the basic to expert.
BE PATIENT and BREATH
I don’t know a blogger around who hasn’t second guessed what their doing. I had a moment just last week… I worked really hard on a post….. no comments, no shares…. ugh, but then I looked at my stats and it showed a ton of views and clicks. But, it’s ok not to look at the big picture….some of the most successful and profitable blogs are are from those called micro influencers. They may have a small audience but they are very niched in and engaged. So, you never know but with each post you are making a footprint and what you have to say is out there for someone to hear and that post will float around forever. It may take weeks, months or years but with each post, each mistake, and each new tip you learn, you are one step closer to being the blogger you want to be.
