Five Unusual Items You Must Pack For Disney World
When it comes to traveling I am lucky to reach any destination without wishing I had brought at least two or three things. That said, I have learned over the years some tricks of the trade and learned what to pack for Disney. I always work off of a list, I never pack last minute and I give plenty of thought to where I am actually going in advance. These three little tips will cover many of the basic mistakes you might make, but it will do something much more.
That last bit about giving thought to where I am going? That one helps more than anything. Because I love to go to Disney World and all of their parks and resorts, I have spent plenty of time thinking about specific things that would be helpful. Spending time with kids in those parks will quickly teach you what you wish you had….let me tell you.
As such, I have compiled the following list of five items that you simply must bring to all parks and resorts when you pack for Disney. You can thank me when you get home if you wish.
A Blanket/Sheet/Throw of some size
Sheets seem to work the best for this particular problem, but anything that is fairly large and lightweight will do the trick. Why would you possibly need a sheet? Quite simply put, you need to occasionally mark your own area for some things in the Disney parks. When you watch a parade, fireworks, a show or even simply want some picnic or resting time, there is a pretty good chance that people will encroach on your privacy or personal space. Laying out a sheet in your area kind of claims it to others. Does it keep all the Dumbos away? Of course not….but it will help. It also gives you something under your bottom when you want to sit down on the ground.
Personal ID Cards
If you have kids, this is a hugely important thing. This need not be fancy. You simply need to fill out an ID card with specific instructions of what to do if your child becomes lost. It should include vitals, allergies, phone numbers, addresses and anything else that you can manage to fit on the card of importance. One neat tip is to write a note to anyone that finds your child and include it. This is also a good idea for adults just in case of an emergency.
A Map Written In Your Own Language
I am not talking about foreign languages here although that could be the case if you are traveling to out of country Disney locations. What I mean is to look up the map online before you leave of whatever resort/park you are headed to. Write out instructions and plans in your own words and draw your own maps to ease the process. Yes, they have maps at the location. No, you will not entirely get what they are saying to you if you don’t study ahead of time. Notes are optional but believe me, they help.
Snacks that will keep in your pocket and feed the monster
Technically Disney doesn’t allow outside food, but I have never had a problem bringing along these types of foods. Pack several energy bars, dried fruit packages, beef jerky and other things that will not sour or go bad. These things are great to have when you are feeling the need to eat but not wanting to spend a fortune before you get home. It also will keep the kids at bay when they see all the candy. Okay….so maybe not that last one but you get the idea.
An empty suitcase
This is a huge one and it is obvious….until you forget it. Nobody goes to Disney and comes home with the same amount of stuff. Nobody. Even the cheapest of travelers will find some things to bring home. Where are you going to put it without an extra bag? Do you really want to buy the bags found at Disney World for $600? I kid, but you get the point. Pack an empty and you will never have this problem.
