The long awaited day has arrived!!! The Lion King has been released to Blu-ray TODAY! I remember when this movie came out on VHS, I was 12 years old, my little sister was only 2, I played this movie on loop all the time! On weekends, we could have easily watched it 3-4 times! I would always say that I was putting the movie on for my sister to watch, but I think everyone knew better…. mainly because, she would run off somewhere and I would still be thoroughly engrossed.. even though it was my 50th time watching it.
Every year we have a party to end Summer, we invite all the neighbor kids over and pick a themed activity for the evening! Once I learned that The Lion King was being released right before summer ended… I had no other option to make it an end of summer Lion King party. I was so excited because for a couple of the neighbor kids… This was their first time seeing the movie.
No movie night is complete without popcorn, so why not make “Pumba Popcorn“, it couldn’t be easier either! Pop up some kettle corn (microwave works) and add in on bag of trail mix! Ta-da, the kids will love the garbage style snack.
Plan on featuring the sing-a-long from the bonus feature. Keep the party hopping and get the parents involved with a sing-a-long including all The Lion King favorites like “Circle of Life”, “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”, “Be Prepared”, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” and everyone’s favorite “Hakuna Matata”.
For all the little kids that will be at your party, keep them entertained by making a “Mighty Mufasa” face. This super easy craft can be done with items you probably already have around the house.
What you will need
1 paper plate
quarter size amount of paint -orange or a bit of yellow and red to create your own shade
eyes – either google eyes, paper cut outs or a dab of black paint
Black puff paint for nose, mouth and eyebrows
glue
corkscrew noodles
Directions
Paint your plate all over, add your eyes and paint your facial features. Add dabs of glue about a half inch apart all around the rim of the plate, place noodles on glue and let dry.
Of course you need to have a drink from all that singing and to wash down that popcorn! How about the “Simba Sipper“. This easy drink can be made in minutes.
Ingredients
1 2 liter bottle of lemon-lime soda
1 container of vanilla ice cream
1 bottle of mango puree
Directions – Fill each glass up with 2 scoops of ice cream, top the glass almost to the top with the lemon-lime soda. Drizzle the mango puree around the top.
For additional items to make your partly one they will never forget, make sure you get some balloons and tableware. I also like to get little figurines, like the Lion King characters above… hide them around the house or yard and they make a great seek and find game that doubles as a party favor.
Pick up The Lion King on Blu-Ray and add this to your families collection. Just like I will always remember being a kid watching The Lion King, I hope I will be passing these memories on down to my kids. And, for the adults who have seen the movie several times… this combo pack includes special features that you won’t want to miss!
