Thank you Cirque du Soleil for providing tickets for my family to view and share our thoughts about the new show Crystal – all thoughts and opinion are my own
If you have ever been to any Cirque du Soleil show, then you know they are a grip your seat, hold your breath and find yourself dumbfounded with amazement kind of experience! Recently I have been amazed with the show Zumanity on my last trip to Vegas and Kurios last year.
Well, the new Cirque du Soleil show Crystal will not fall short of your expectations, in fact they kick it up a notch and combine they’re death defying stunts ON ICE!!…. oh yeah, there’s a combination for you, flips and twists with trapeze and crazy balancing all being performed on either the ice or on ice skates.
I was able to take my family to the opening night performance of Crystal at the Moda Center in Portland this week, now keep in mind, this isn’t their traditional setting like the big white tent you would normally see in their traditional shows but since the show is taking place on ice they had to create the same magic they are known for within an ice arena… and boy they didn’t miss a beat.
The sultry unique performance pushes the boundaries of Cirque du Soleil in a way they have never done before. Many of the performers are professional acrobats that had to learn ice skating…. as opposite, they have many professional Olympian ice skaters that had to learn a bit of acrobatic skills. While watching the show you would never know that this is some uncharted territory for some of the performers.
The performance Crystal, (also the name of the main character), goes on a mystical journey. She show starts very peaceful, with graceful skating on an amazing set, then she finds herself struggling as she starts to fall though the frozen lake. Through crystals imagination, he life flashes before her eye and she gets to see a fresh angle of everyday life as she watches the reflection of herself, her alter ego, guide her.
During the two-hour performance, you will see juggling, trapeze, my favorite…. the hockey performance and of course live music. This was the first performance for some of my kids and they were so zoned in, I loved hearing the random gasps and squeals they would let out at some of the nail biting tricks.
Cirque du Soleil Crystal is a must see, no matter what your age is…. this is a truly unique opportunity that you will not be able to see anywhere!
Tickets are still available!!! Catch the Portland show now through April 8th

About Cirque du Soleil Crystal
Crystal is a misfit with her head in the clouds, a dreamer looking for something more in her life. One day,
feeling misunderstood and out of sync with the world, she ventures out on a frozen pond and falls
through the ice. In this underwater world of her own imagination, she has a vision: she sees a reflection
of herself – her alter ego – that guides her, showing her a distorted version of her life. Her Reflection
tries to wake her up to her own genius and creativity. Through her writing, Crystal releases the potential
of her hidden talent and transforms the world around her with stroke of her pen. Having summoned the
strength to face reality, Crystal ultimately breaks through the ice, stronger than ever.
The show Crystal is about looking at things from fresh angles, peeking through the veneer of everyday
life, reframing one’s daily reality to see what one might have missed. Sometimes the only way to
appreciate things is to look at them sideways. Discovering one’s individuality and uniqueness requires
venturing out on thin ice.
