One of the major benefits of having a RV is being able to have things packed and ready to go at a moments notice. I remember when we went tent camping for the first time with 6 kids and I swear it looked like we were moving. We would have a full truck and hitch utility trailer packed with chairs, table, coolers, bikes, grill…. you name it! It was so much work for just a weekend. Now we have our RV packed up with these easy basic camper checklists. Now when we want to go camping spontaneously, all we need to do is pack personal clothes and meal food. There is something so nice about knowing we could hit the road in just about an hour.

General Items
- Mobile phone with charger – Since service or WIFI may be no existent or spotty, you may want to take screen shots of all important information. You may want to have things like barcodes, confirmation numbers or campsites ready in picture form to reference incase you will not be able to pull them up when you arrive.
- Map – This is sort of a follow up to #1, incase you are not able to get GPS service, you may need to go old school and reference a may if you get lost.
- Folding Chairs – This is a given, but often forgotten, as many people will pull these from the RV for things like sporting events or when having company over and forget to put them back.
- Outdoor Folding Table – Same for tables, these will sometime be forgotten because we forget we have taken them out. You many also want to pack more than one table, one for eating and one for prepping food and grilling.
- Table Cloth – Don’t skip on the quality of these. I have bought the Dollar Tree ones many times and they will rip within the first 10 min. I suggest you buy the $5 Walmart cloths that a felt lined, they will last the whole summer.
- Backpack – If you are planning any hiking or day trios while camping, you will want a backpack for water, snacks and other essentials for the day.
- Bug Spray– This is a MUST, nothing can ruin a camping trip quicker that being surrounded by bugs.
- Camera/batteries – If you are bringing a professional camera, make sure you bring extra batteries and a charger
- Flashlight/batteries – This is always important to have on hand just in case, especially for any late night RV troubleshooting
- lantern– I have recently brought the rechargeable lantern from Costco…. This is life changing, for under $20, get an amazing lantern without the hassle of batteries.
- Sleeping bag – I would suggest you pack one extra sleeping bag, this will cover any accident or soiled bags.
- bedding –Make sure you pack layers for your bedding. Having several layers will make for the most comfortable trips.
- Alarm clock – This is a great idea as a back up in case your phone fails
- Fan – This is a lifesaver during the Summer, bonus if you can find a solar powered fan, perfect for dry camping.
- Extension cord – This is a good idea to have to plug in lights or a fan
- umbrella – No body want to think about it raining on their RV trip but sometimes even the best plans fail…. so always be prepared.
- First aid kit – This is so important. Make sure you have instant ice, bandages, bug bite relief and burn gel in your first aid kit.
- Camping stove with fuel – Make sure you always bring 1 extra fuel container that you think you will need.
Essential Personal Items
- Toiletries/bathroom essentials – Don’t forget medication, feminine hygiene products, toothbrush/toothpaste, contact solution
- Towel washcloth – Make sure you pack at least one person, plus a few more for emergency situations.
- Bug Spray – Nothing can ruin a trip quicker!!!
- Sunscreen – This is important year round to have on hand but if you are doing any water sports, you may want to pack 1 can/bottle for every 2 people
- Day clothes – Camping can be unpredictable, even in the summer. Make sure you pack morning/evening clothes when it turns chilly and dewy. You will also want an assortment of day cloths for when you go to the lake or go on a hike and need to change because you got wet or sweaty.
- Sleepwear – This is also hard to navigate because I actually sleep hotter while camping in the RV than I do at home. So, you may want to bring sleep pants and shorts depending on how your internal temperature runs.
- Undergarments – Again, you may think this is a simple answer but you should pack at least 1 per day camping. Obviously you may want to pack extra for young kids.
- Socks – During the Summer I rarely wear anything other than sandals but if you plan on any hiking you may want to bring a few extra pair to change into.
- Shoes – Pack for comfort, but bring at least 2 options, we had left our shoes outside and overnight it rained and we all had not dry shoes for the day.
- Flipflops– Perfect for day use and also as shower shoes if you plan on using the community shower.
- Swimming Clothes – Bring 1 or 2 sets of swimwear for each person, don’t forget beach towels and coverups as well
- Sunglasses/sun hats – I have forgot these several times, so we not have a sunglass bucket in the trailer at all times
Activities/Entertainment
- Books
- DVDS
- Deck of cards
- Board Games
- Bicycle
- Fishing gear
- Frisbee
- Life jacket
Don’t forget
- Proof of RV insurance – This is important for and accident you may be in or for any roadside assistance, like a flat tire ore broken axel
- RV manual – This is important to have tucked away. We have had to reference this when our hot water heater was not firing up. You never know when you will need some troubleshooting answers.
- Identification cards – This is sometimes needed for checking in
- Destination direction – Always make sure you have written directions as well as a screenshot of the directions and contact info, this is important in case you lose phone service.
- Daily itinerary – The best itinerary is the one that involves nothing but if you are on a long trip, you may want to have things like travel times, recommended places to eat, activities and rest stops.
- Campground Directions – Again, so important to have back up info in case your phone has zero service.
BONUS
Don’t forget cleaning items
Pet items if you are bringing a pet (food, bed, mud wipes, poop bags).
Extra Ice
Room spray (We notice that having 5 people sharing a small space, it can get stinky very quick).
