U.S. Bank Broadway in Portland is thrilled to announce WAITRESS will play Keller Auditorium for a limited one-week engagement from September 18-23
Tuesday I had the privilege of attending the opening night of Waitress at the Keller Auditorium in Portland. This modern day story of empowerment and a woman finding herself is uplifting and inspirational. You will laugh and… yes, you will cry but in the end you will feel all warm and fuzzy!
Jenna (Desi Oakley) is the perfect fit for this character, she is super strong willed and opinionated, yet despite these qualities, like many woman, can find themselves in a tough spot with their relationships and made to feel small. Her dry sarcasm will have you chuckling under your breath and rooting for her the whole why through.
As you watch the show, you can’t feel the love that the waitress trio has for each other, the support and guidance is exactly what we look for in best friends. Each one of them brings a different perspective to the table and helps Jenna break free.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t familiar with any of the music but I did love every song! Did you know that music and lyrics were created by 6 time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles? I think her unique musical touch is why this Broadway show is such a hit. Personally, my favorite song is “Never Get Rid Of Me” sung by Ogie (Jeremy Morse) He adds that very special goofy touch to the whole production that you will remember the most…. when you see it you will understand!
You are going to love every moment of this show, the songs, the passion, the pies….. oh and the pie names, those are the best!
Don’t wait get your tickets today, space is still available!
I do suggest that this musical is a little more for the adult crowd. They have done a very tasteful job, and most suggestive moments would likely go over their head, but if you want to avoid any awkward questions, this may be more for the 13 and over crowd.
Synopsis: Inspired by Adrienne Shelly’s beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna – a waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.
