7 Ways to Make Your Next Flight More Comfortable
Whether you travel for business, leisure, or to visit family, it is essential that you are as comfortable as possible. Here are some cool ways to make any flight a little bit more bearable and much more comfy.
- Pack earplugs. It never fails and you are seated near a crying baby or a chatty Cathy for a long flight. Get some good ones so that you can also tune out the humming of the engines. If you own sound proof headphones, these are great too.
- Dress for hot and cold. It’s best to dress in layers. Even if you don’t think it is necessary, it’s best to be prepared. I have been on super stuffy, hot flights and I have been on flights where it felt as if they have been blasting the AC for hours. You can always take off a sweater with a shirt underneath, but you won’t be able to add it if you don’t have it.
- Check in early. Try your best to check in as early as you can so you can not only select a good seat, but beat some last minute stress by not running late to the airport. If you are a napper, you’ll want a window seat. I also won’t travel with out my travel neck pillow, which can also double as a back pillow when you are starting to feel sore and antsy.
- Drink lots of water. Make sure you stay hydrated and perhaps skip the coffee and soda service. Keep water on hand to sip on during the flight and you’ll feel so much better when you land.
- Wear comfy shoes. You will want to wear easy off and on shoes so that you can get through security easy. Also, make sure you have a pair of socks or slippers to put on for a longer flight to avoid your feet or ankles swelling.
- Bring healthy snacks. In order to have good energy when you reach your destination, it’s a good idea to bring along a few healthy snacks like trail mix, granola bars, or mixed nuts. Sweets will only make feel a little sleepy once the sugar rush wears off.
- BYO pillow or blanket. If you bring along your own travel pillow or small blanket you are sure to be more comfortable and relaxed. Most times there aren’t enough of the airplane’s stash to give to everyone.
- Headphones. More and more flights are starting to offer in air entertainment, either via in seat screens or through their app. (make sure to ask the ticket counter for the name of the app AND download it before you get on the plane as you will not be able to download after takeoff.
- Dramamine. If you are the type to get any bit of motion sickness, then I highly suggest keeping Dramamine in your carry on medicine box. This is one of those better be safe than sorry items.
- Pre-Download – This has been a hard lesson to learn because it takes time, sometimes hours and planning. The night before, I suggest you download any movies, songs, games that you might like during your flight. It is about a 50/50 if you are going to get a flight that has been updated with any in flight entertainment.
- Request and exit row – If you are physically able and not traveling with an infant, you may want to look into requesting and emergency exit. The leg room is almost double and some only have 2 seats vs three.
- Aroma Therapy – Pack a few oils to help you stay centered. There are many varieties out there, some for calming, relaxing, and some that can help you sleep.
I love to travel and always fly coach, so if I am a little more prepared then I know my flight will be a lot more comfortable. It doesn’t take a lot of money or extra effort to try some of these reminder tips, so keep in mind it’s all in the planning.
