Have you found yourself in this situation? You are running to the airport, checking your bags, grab a bite to eat, board the plane and just when they are about to close the doors, you remember that you need to find entertainment for the next few hours. I have done this far too many times. By the time I am remember, I am scrambling to download the airlines free entertainment service, which always seems to fail. Then I am trying to pain my ear buds which 50% of the time fails. I usually look like a mess and there is no excuse because I am always on the go.
I have changed my strategy and can safely say I am ready for holiday travel! Here are 7 travel tips to have top entertainment during holiday travel.
1. Play a word game on your phone
There are many “wifi free” games that are fun an challenging for kids on up to adults. Generally these will be simple puzzle games or mind benders. My favorite are a Solitaire games. There are so many varieties that it will be hard to get bored.
These are a few of my favorite:
Logic Puzzle Games
Word Games
Mahjong Games
2. Use the airplane’s in-flight entertainment system to watch movies and TV shows
It’s easy to forget about the in-flight entertainment system on an airplane. It’s there, but most people forget to download the app prior to flying. Once you’re in the air, the only way to get entertainment is through the seatback screen. Remember, each airlines has their own free inflight entertainment app, so double check to see if you have it downloaded prior to take off.
3. Download games before you fly from the app store or from your computer onto an SD card or USB drive
Don’t forget to Download games before you fly from the app store or from your computer onto an SD card or USB drive. Make sure you look got games that are wifi free, once you are 10,000 feet in the air you won’t be able to get them from wifi.
4. Take advantage of airport free wifi when you land, but only if it’s safe to do so
As soon as you get below 10,000 feet you will start hearing your phone get service, and a few minutes after that you will get service to check your flight information or request rideshare
Free airport wifi is usually available at most major airports throughout the world
5. Check out these fun airplane games for kids – they’re great for any time of year!
These will keep the kids busy, they can even play together!
Hidden Object Games
Card Games
Match 3 Games
6. Download your music at home
This has always been the most time consuming task. I have tried many times to download at the airport but the signal is too weak and it takes over an hour to downloads a playlist. Put this on your packing list to do the day before so you are ready to sit back and relax. Also, don’t for get to download, pair and charge your earbuds.
7) Make sure you have a good book downloaded on your phone – it will help pass the time during takeoff and landing!
This is the same tip as the music, this will be a lengthy download, nothing you want to do with airport or airlines wifi, you won’t be happy, trust me. Make sure you put this on your to do list the night before.
