4 Tips To Help You Organize Your Clothes
Organizing clothes can be a chore, but it doesn’t have to be. There are plenty of clothes organization methods out there that will make the process much easier. In this blog post, we’re going to share four simple tips with you that will help you organize clothes better in your closet or dresser drawers.
Figure out what you want to store your clothes in
If you don’t have clothes racks or clothes shelves, then you’ll need to pick something else. Common containers for clothes are dresser drawers, closet organizers or even plastic crates and bins. You can learn more here about how to pick the best containers for you. Before picking a container for your clothes, make sure that it will work with the size of clothes you want to store in it – if they don’t, then you will need to find something else.
The clothes that you want to store in your container should also be of similar types. For example, if you’re storing skirts and dresses, then it would make sense for them to go into one dresser drawer or closet organizer. Pants could go into another.
This is important because when clothes are placed near other clothes with the same function- such as shirts being next to jeans- it makes finding appropriate outfits easier than if everything was thrown into the same pile on your floor.
If you keep your clothes in a closet you can also color coordinate them. This also makes clothing easier to find, as well as looks attractive.
Make a plan for the space where you will be storing them
If clothes are going into a dresser drawer, you will need to plan where clothes and shoes will go in the drawer so they don’t become unorganized. If clothes are going on a clothes rack or clothes shelf then this is important as well because it’s not easy to organize clothes when they’re hanging up. The clothes should be hung so that they are hanging in the same orientation and clothes of similar types can be organized together.
If you’re going to hang clothes up it is a good idea to fold them beforehand, as this will keep any wrinkles out- though there’s always an exception and there will be the clothes that don’t need ironing or steaming. You’ll also want to make sure everything fits on your rack or shelf before buying anything because otherwise you might end up with a bunch of clothes stuffed into one side which won’t look very neat.
Install closet organizers
Closet organizers provide plenty of room for storing clothing and shoes that would be impossible with just shelves- plus these types of storage systems also work great if you want more organization options like drawers or shelving inside your closet system. When installing closet organizers, make sure that there is enough space between them- think about how much clothes you have before deciding what type of organizer system best suits your needs.
Regardless of what type of closet organizer system you choose, always measure at least twice before installing. Measure clothes that you want to store in the closet so you know how much space they will take up- then measure again so you can make sure clothes fit on shelves or hang from racks.
Put away clothes as soon as they are dirty or wet
Lastly, clothes should be put away as soon as they are dirty or wet. It is a good idea to either give clothes that need washing one last wear before putting them in the wash so you don’t have clothes sitting around waiting for laundry day- and if clothes do need to sit out then make sure they’re hung up somewhere safe from animals and other potential hazards.
Clothes can also go straight into the dryer after being washed because this will help keep clothes clean while preventing wrinkles (though it’s always better not to let clothes air dry if possible). Dryers work well on clothes like sweaters but less than perfect when used with delicate fabric clothing types such as t-shirts because of how hot they are able to get.
Ultimately, it is also more hygienic to separate your dirty clothes from your clean clothes and your wet clothes from your dry ones. Your dirty clothes can spread germs to your clean ones that can make you and others sick. Meanwhile, putting your wet clothes with your dry ones can encourage the growth of mold, which is very difficult to remove.
We know that figuring out how to organize your clothes can be a daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be. With these easy tips and tricks, you’ll get organized in no time. Once the room has been cleaned up, installed organizers should take care of most of it from there. You may want some additional organizational items like shelves or hangers but once they are in place, all that’s left is putting away dirty/wet clothes as soon as possible.
