As we search the interent, we scroll though a sea of “Kardashians” and 20 something girls rocking the “instagram famous” title. We watch them rock their perfect make up and messy buns AND I think we all secretly wish we could recapture just a glimps of our earlier youth.

Lashes are now the new eyebrow…lol. While checking out these instagram hotties, I admire their natural looking lashes, long, full and perfectly curled. Just then, a terrifying thought crosses my mind…….

“Am I too old for lash extensions?”

I have tried so called “fake lashes” before with zero success. That nasty little strip never went on straight, looked un-natural and you had to make sure you didn’t blink too hard or you would have a horribly embarrassing corner pop up and flap in the wind at just the right moment.

While I am no longer anywhere near my 20’s, in fact I am approaching my 40′ ( yikes, I think that is the first time I have opening admitted that) I have a new found acceptance of myself. I have come to terms that I will NEVER be a size 2, and my stretch marks from birthing 6 children will never be gone, I may be starting to get smile lines BUT gosh darn……

I deserve to feel pretty!

I deserve to love myself and indulge in a little pampering, FOR ME!!! After all, like they say….. the 40’s is the new 30’s, so let’s live it up.

I have been caring for children for over 20 years, tended to work, the house, the family and NOW, I am going to indulge in lash extensions. 

I partnered with the Lash Lounge ( Bethany location) In Oregon to get a full set of lashes. Essentially, lash extensions are single lashes that are attached (glued) to your current lashes to achieve length, volume and fullness.

And guess what…. I am in love!!! I chose to go middle of the road on dramatics, length and thickness. I wanted them to be obvious but not in your face. My lash stylist completely listened to my wants and helped guide me to what would be perfect for my eye shape. It helped that she had lashes herself and was able to use them as a guide. I was able to reference her lashes so I had an idea of the exact length and thickens I was hoping for.

What you need to know about your visit

Think comfort – You will be laying flat for up to 2 hours and you are not going to want to be in tight, short or binding clothes.

Avoid Eye Makeup – You will have to remove everything from your eye area before they begin

Bring Headphones – Since it will take awhile, you will want to listen to some music or audio book

Arrive a few Minutes Early –  You will need to sign some paper work, get a drink, use the restroom and not want to feel rushed

No Children – As I mentioned above, this is a 2 hour process and you will not be able to care for any children at all

 

 

What you need to know about after care

Only Oil Free  – When it comes to mascara, make-up remover, and eyeliner, you are going to want to make sure they are all oil free

Brush Often – Try to brush your lashes daily. While this is not necessary, this is more for comfort. Sometimes the lashes can get twisted or get sleep in them and this will help them stay nice, fluffy and maintain their shape.

Don’t Rub – Rubbing, picking and pulling is not your friend. All of these will make your lashes fall out prematurely and make you need a fill sooner that needed.

Maintenance– After your first full set you should schedule regular fills. This will help maintain your lashes to look full and luscious.

Lash extensions are an investment in yourself. The self confidence you will receive is priceless! I haven’t even had to wear mascara in over 2 weeks and it’s amazing! The Lash Lounge has some pretty incredible programs to help you save!
