In case you are new to traditional wet shaving, here is a basic tutorial for using a double edge safety razor. Technique is important with safety razors, and great technique will give you a great shave:
- Shower, or wash and rinse your face in warm, not hot, water for at least thirty seconds. Moisture softens your hair for an easier shave.
- Look closely at the growth direction of your hair. It is easier to shave with the direction of the hair. This doesn’t provide the absolute closest shave – but it’s the best way to start until you get the hang of the technique.
- Lather up thoroughly with your favorite shaving oil and/or cream. Make sure it is applied evenly all over the areas to be shaved, working it gently into the hair.
- Heat the blade in warm water. Remember to rinse it frequently when shaving.
- Using almost no pressure, with an angle of about 30 degrees to the face, shave with the grain of the hair in short, straight strokes. The strokes should be approximately 1-2 inches.
- For a prominent or a cleft chin, using your free hand, gently pull the skin taut by pressing under your chin while shaving.
- For a closer shave, re-lather and shave a second time, this time going across the grain.
- Take your time around the nose and make sure the area is well-lathered.
- Know your blade’s limits. Don’t try to get extra shaves off your blade. Astra blades generally are good for 3 or so shaves, depending on hair coarseness and density. Try out a blade sampler to experiment with
- different blade types – this can make a big difference in your shave.

This razor is amazing!!! The razor comes with extra blades and is extremely easy to place a blade into it. Just unscrew the handle and the top lifts, drop a blade in and rotate the handle to close the top. Another great feature, in my opinion, is the manufacturer states you can use any blade you like. How many razors out there do you have to purchase their specific blade and of course get charged and arm-and-a-leg for them too? This is a significant savings for any man who shaves.

CRANBERRY SPICE MOONSHINE
Ingredients:
1 pound fresh or frozen cranberries
6 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
½ teaspoon whole allspice berries
2 whole nutmeg, quartered
3 cups apple cider
½ gallon cranberry juice
1 (750 ml) bottle Everclear®
Instructions:
- Roughly chop cranberries, combine with Everclear® in a large, sealable container.
- Steep one week in the refrigerator.
- Once steeped, combine cranberry juice, cider and spices in a large pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let sit another 30 minutes or until cool.
- Strain both mixtures into a large, sealable container.
- Gift and enjoy responsibly. May be served warm or chilled.
